American photographer Sara Naomi Lewkowicz has been announced as 2014’s L’Iris d’Or/Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year by the World Photography Organisation.

Selected from 140,000 from 166 countries, the  winning portfolio, titled  ‘Shane and Maggie’, takes a deep, unflinching look at domestic abuse as a process, as opposed to a single incident and explores  its short and long-term effects on victims, their families, and their abusers.
