October 27, 2009: WD has released a new player that makes it easy for anyone to play HD (high definition) videos stored on USB and network drives, as well as Internet content from popular Web sites, on their TV sets.
The WD TV Live HD media player offers network capability and Full-HD 1080p resolution, enabling users to display digital content and enjoy a world of digital content in their living room, without a computer. The WD TV Live media player connects directly to the user’s HD TV and plays almost any file stored on a connected USB drive. Images and video clips can be easily transferred from PC or Mac computers – or a network-attached storage device such as WD’s My Book – to HD TV sets. The WD TV Live media player also allows users to stream rich content (including movies, music and photos) from YouTube, Flickr and Pandora.

The HD on-screen menu brings together all of the available media in an elegant and simple-to-navigate interface. The WD TV Live media player also features powerful media processing, which enables playback in Full-HD 1080p resolution. Movies and photos stored on other popular USB devices such as digital camcorders and digital cameras can also be displayed directly from the device using Picture Transfer Protocol.
Users can transfer files by copying, moving or deleting files stored on a USB drive, a network drive, camcorder or a camera to the attached USB drive using the on-screen menus. Advanced navigation options include thumbnail and list views, media library and search and users can create custom slide shows, zoom and pan on individual images and fast-forward, rewind, pause, zoom and pan and view subtitles when watching videos.
The WD TV Live HD media player comes with two USB ports plus an HDMI 1.3 port and composite video and component video output for the highest quality HDTV or home theatre viewing. This is complemented by SPDIF digital output that sends digital signals to your AV receiver for the best surround sound experience. The WD TV Live HD media player is on sale now at an RRP of $199.
