January 25, 2010: Western Digital (WD) has introduced a new line of high-performance My Book Studio desktop external drives with a customisable e-label that is always visible, even when the device is unplugged.
Designed for Mac users and creative professionals, the new drives are formatted for Mac and offered in capacities of 1 TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB. Each drive comes with FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 interfaces and is TimeMachine compatible. All My Book Studio drives come pre-loaded with WD SmartWare software that launches automatically. This integrated application supports automatic, continuous backup and includes 256-bit hardware-based encryption to provide a high level of security. It also controls the e-label display, password and other settings.

The e-label display relies on e-paper technology and is as easy to read as ink on paper. Users can create customised labels to describe each drive’s contents and these labels can be changed easily whenever desired. The e-label also shows available storage capacity and drive security status. WD GreenPower Technology reduces internal drive power consumption by up to 30%. There’s also a sleep mode to cut power during idle times and a power-saving feature that turns the drive on and off with your computer.
The new My Book Studio drives are distributed by Synnex Australia and Simms International and available now at selected retailers. RRP for the 1TB drives is $229.99, with the 1.5TB drives selling for $299.99 and the 2TB drives for $399.99. For more information, visit www.westerndigital.com.
