April 14, 2011: Vivid Sydney, the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere, will once again light up the city each night from 27 May to 13 June.
In 2011 the festival will include a range of artistic collaborations, public talks and debates from leading creative thinkers from Australia and around the world, celebrating Sydney as the creative hub of the Asia Pacific. Lighting the Sails (of the Opera House) is the centrepiece of Vivid Sydney and Vivid LIVE curator, Stephen Pavlovic, has charged a French team to push the lighting the Sydney Opera House sails further than it has ever been taken before. This event alone will provide a wealth of picture-taking opportunities.
Another event for photographers is the Fire Dance at Campbell’s Cove, which provides five nightly performances between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Vivid Sydney will include over 40 stunning light art installations from local and international artists in a free outdoor exhibition around Circular Quay where children are encouraged to climb on interactive sculptures and aspiring photographers can explore night photography.
