Vivid Sydney, an 18-day festival of light, music and ideas, opens on Friday 22 May, with displays of lighting sculptures and installations turning the CBD and Chatswood into a wonderland of ‘light art’ sculptures.

The Lighting the Sails display on the Sydney Opera House presents photographers with an ever-changing light show to capture.

The festival is the largest event of its kind in Australia and this year it will expand further with a world-class line-up of concert and music performances, public ideas programs, creative industry workshops and conferences, extending out to Sydney University and Chatswood. At the heart of Vivid Music is Vivid LIVE, a program of cutting-edge music which takes place at the Sydney Opera House. This year, the Opera House will host the Australian premiere of a free exhibition in the Western Foyer celebrating  Universal Everything ““ the creators behind this year’s Lighting the Sails ““  Squarepusher’s Stor Eiglass Virtual Reality Experience. This display extends the Vivid Sydney Light Walk inside the Opera House for the first time, into the Box Office Foyer. Also at the Opera House, is the new festival pop-up bar, The Deep Purple Pool Hall, a bustling festival bar with downtown favourites, a craft-focused menu, live DJs and free pool, transforming one of the Opera House’s best-kept secret hideaways into the ultimate harbour-side dive bar. Entry to all these displays and venues is free.
