September 20, 2006: Some great photographs of invertebrates will go on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney on 30 September with the opening of the ‘Up Close and Spineless‘ photography exhibition.
Now in its fifth year, the exhibition showcases more than 50 stunning images chosen from 360 entered in an annual photography competition which encourages amateur and professional photographers from around Australia to seek out rare and unusual spineless species. Invertebrates comprise over 30 major animal groups and more five million species so the exhibition offers plenty of scope for photographers of all ages. The competition covers four categories: Primary School, Secondary School, Open and Professional, with a winner and highly commended selected from each. The winners of the Open, Secondary and Primary School categories were each awarded a digital camera, while the winner of the Professional category received a $600 gift certificate.
The ‘Up Close and Spineless‘ exhibition can be seen in the Biodiversity Gallery (Level 2) at the Australian Museum in College Street, Sydney, between 30 September and 29 January 2007. The exhibition is free with general Museum entry ($10 adult, $5 child/ concession/ senior). The Australian Museum is open daily from 9.30am to 5.00pm.
