Concurrent with the unveiling of the D300S and D3000 DSLR cameras, Nikon has announced two new Zoom Nikkor lenses, the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II and the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II.

 

July 30, 2009: Concurrent with the unveiling of the D300S and D3000 DSLR cameras, Nikon has announced two new Zoom Nikkor lenses, the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II and the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II.
Both lenses feature the latest iteration of Nikon’s VR (Vibration Reduction) stabilisation system. Both represent updates to current Nikkor lenses.
The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II covers the most popular focal length range, offering a high zoom ratio with magnification of 11.1x. Designed specifically for the company’s DX-format camera bodies it consists of 16 elements in 12 groups and includes two ED glass and three aspherical lens elements. This lens covers picture angles from eight to 76 degrees and has a close focusing limit of 50 cm. Seven rounded diaphragm blades produce smooth bokeh. The maximum reproduction ratio is 0.22x. Measuring approximately 77 x 96.5 mm and weighing 565 grams, the new lens is threaded to accept 72mm filters.

The AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II can be used on both DX- and FX-format bpodies. It features a new Nano Crystal Coating to suppress flare and ghosting and a new optical design. Consisting of 21 elements in 16 groups it includes seven ED elements plus several Nano Crystal Coat-deposited lens elements. Maximum apertures range from f/2.8 to f/22 and picture angles extend from 12 degrees 20 minutes to 34 degrees 20 minutes (8 to 22 degrees 50 minutes in DX-format).

Measuring approximately 87 x 209 mm and weighing 1.54 kilograms, this lens is threaded for 77mm filters and boasts nine rounded diaphragm blades to ensure attractive bokeh. Closest focusing distance is 1.4 metres, with a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.12x. Three built-in focusing modes allow users to choose between M, M/A, A/M. A Silent Wave Motor (SWM) ensures smooth and quiet autofocusing.
