The new SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD (Model A009) is a fast telephoto zoom lens equipped with VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation and an USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) autofocus motor. Designed to deliver high image quality it boasts the most compact design in its class. Constructed from 23 elements in 17 groups it includes one special XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) glass elements plus four LD (Low Dispersion) elements to minimise chromatic aberrations. Tamron’s advanced multi-layer coating technology improves lens performance by reducing flare and ghosting for crisper, clearer images. A circular aperture diaphragm ensures attractive bokeh and moisture-resistant construction enables the lens to be used in a wide variety of conditions. This lens measures 188.3 mm in length and has a diameter of 85.8 mm. With the detachable tripod mount its overall weight is 1470 grams. Expected retail price is around AU$1699.

Tamron will also release the latest version of its popular 90mm macro lens, which has been redesigned to include proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) and an USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) autofocus motor. Weighing 550 grams and measuring 114.5 mm in length with a diameter of 76.4 mm, the new lens is expected to sell for around AU$999. The optical construction includes 14 elements in 11 groups with two XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) glass elements and one LD (Low Dispersion) element to minimise common aberrations. Internal focusing ensures a constant barrel length and enables angle-critical attachments to be used.
Tamron’s newly developed eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating delivers a dramatic improvement in antireflection performance, significantly reducing flare and ghosting. The minimum focusing distance of 30 cm delivers true macro 1:1 reproduction. A lens hood is included as a standard accessory. This new lens will be sold alongside its predecessor, the SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 (Model 272E).
For both lenses the Canon mount will be released first, with Nikon and Sony mounts to follow. The Sony mount does not include VC, as Sony digital SLR bodies include image stabilisation.
Tamron is also offering a satisfaction guarantee for lenses purchased between 1 November 2012 and 1 January 2013. For details visit: http://www.tamron.com.au/satisfied/
