August 23, 2005: Epson has released two new photo scanners with 3200 dpi resolution and multiple film scanning capabilities.
The new Epson Perfection 3490 Photo and Perfection 3590 Photo scanners use a Matrix CCD scanning head with micro lenses to produce accurate colour tones and clear definition when scanning film, negatives and photos. Both models can achieve a 3.2 Dmax dynamic range, ensuring a full range of tones is recorded. A bluish lamp used to reduce exposure times for the blue channel, thereby increasing the scanning speed for negative scans. Both models include an easy-to-use, four button operation panel with Start, Copy, Scan to Email and Scan to PDF functions, allowing them to be used for most home and small business scanning tasks. Both models come with a fast USB 2.0 interface and ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) for increased productivity.
The Perfection 3490 Photo features a compact moving TPU (transparency unit), which can scan up to four 35mm stripfilm frames or up to three slide frames at a time. The Perfection 3590 Photo features an AFL (automatic film loader), which accurately feeds, scans and ejects large volumes of stripfilm for convenient fast and efficient scanning. Both models are supplied with a generous software bundle that includes Epson Creativity Suite with Colour Restoration function, for restoring faded colour and black and white photos, and Dust Removal function to minimise dust from film and negatives, in addition to Epson Scan, ArcSoft Photo Impression 5, ABBYY FineReader 5 Sprint and NewSoft Presto! BizCard 4 LE. The Perfection 3490 Photo scanner is expected to sell for $299, while the Perfection 3590 Photo scanner is priced at $349. For full product specifications, go to www.epson.com.au.
