Canon Australia has added two new models to the extensive Canon PowerShot A-series camera range, which is designed for everyday snapshooters.

January 19, 2007: Canon Australia has added two new models to the extensive Canon PowerShot A-series camera range, which is designed for everyday snapshooters.
The PowerShot A450, which replaces the current PowerShot A430, has a 4.8×3.6mm image sensor with 5-megapixel resolution plus a 3.2x optical zoom lens (38-122mm equivalent). The rear panel sports a 2.0-inch LCD monitor with 86,000 pixel resolution and coverage of 100% and a small optical viewfinder is provided. It has a built-in flash with auto, on, slow synchro and off settings and red-eye reduction is available. Continuous shooting is available at 1.5 frames/second. RRP for the PowerShot A450 is $199.

Replacing the current PowerShot A530, the new PowerShot A550 (RRP $279) has a 5.76 x 4.29mm CCD image sensor with an effective resolution of 7.1 megapixels. The 4x optical zoom lens covers a range equivalent to 35-140mm in 35mm format and focuses to 45 cm (with macro focusing down to 5cm).

The A550 includes a new Shooting/Playback button that enables switching between recording and playback with just one touch, a first in the PowerShot A series. It has a 2.0-inch LCD monitor with 86,000 pixel resolution plus a real-image optical zoom viewfinder. The autofocus system supports AiAF and Centre-based TTL focusing and continuous shooting is available at 1.7 frames/second.

Both models are powered by two AA-size batteries and feature DiG!C II image processing. Shutter speeds in both models range from 15 to 1/2000 second and both support PictBridge, Bubble Jet Direct and Canon Direct Print printing.
