March 1, 2011: Tamron’s updated 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 zoom lens, which was announced in December 2010, has just gone on sale in Australia.
Claimed as the world’s most compact, lightweight lens in its class, the 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD lens is the company’s first with a new standing wave ultrasonic AF motor system, the PZD (piezo-electric drive). Constructed from 16 optical elements in 13 groups, it comes with Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation. Minimum apertures range from f/22 to f/40 and a seven-bladed diaphragm ensures attractive bokeh. The minimum focusing distance is 49 cm throughout the zoom range and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:3.8.
Weighing only 450 grams, it measures 88 mm from the mount face to the tip of the lens and 74.4 mm in diameter, with a filter diameter of 62 mm. This lens is supplied with a petal-shaped lens hood. Photographers who purchase this lens in Australia before 31 August, 2011 will qualify for a five -year warranty.
