April 30, 2009: Tamron has announced the development of the SP AF 60mm F/2.0 Di II LD (IF) Macro 1:1 (Model G005), a macro lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C size image sensors.
The new lens has been developed for photographers who wish to enjoy macro photography with a focal length that provides an angle of view equivalent to 90mm. It offers a fast maximum aperture of f/2.0, making it suitable for both 1:1 macro photography and portraiture, particularly in low light levels. Constructed from 14 elements in 10 groups it features two large LD (low dispersion) glass elements in its first group to counteract various aberrations and maintain high optical quality.
Tamron employed new BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) multi-layer coatings to increase light transmission in both the short and long wavelength ranges. Internal surface coatings subdue reflections to maintain high levels of sharpness and colour reproduction. The new lens incorporates a full-time manual control mechanism that enables the user to manually adjust focus without engaging the AF/MF switch-over button, even when in the auto-focus mode. A large focusing ring provides precise control over manual focusing.
Use of precision injection-moulded engineering plastic parts with high reliability has enabled Tamron to produce a compact lens that measures only 73mm in diameter and weighs a mere 400g. Minimum working distance is 100mm for a maximum magnification ratio of 1:1 (‘life size’). Minimum aperture is f/22.
The new lens is scheduled for release in Australia in August or September and will be made available in mounts for Canon, Nikon (with built-in AF motor) and Sony. Pricing has still to be finalised. For more information, phone Maxwell International Australia on 1300 882 517 or visit www.tamron.com.
