November 2, 2005: A notice has appeared on the Tamron USA website announcing the company will discontinue production of the Bronica RF645 6×4.5 range finder camera model along with its related interchangeable lenses and accessories.
As this is the last model in Bronica’s line-up, the announcement marks the termination of the Bronica brand business, which has existed for 47 years since its first camera, the Zenza Bronica D, was introduced in 1959. The announcement comes as a result of the drastic worldwide shift to digital over the past few years. The quick adoption and shift to digital technology by the core Bronica customer, professional portrait and wedding photographers, has accelerated the decline in Bronica business faster than other brands of medium-format equipment. Current distributors are expected to provide on-going service for existing cameras for some time in the future.
