September 2002: Tamron has announced the release of a new super-wideangle zoom. The AF19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 weighs 300 grams and is just 67.7mm long.

The lens offers film photographers authentic super-wideangle photography with an angle of view of 97 -63 . Photographers using digital SLRs with different aspect ratios to 35mm will benefit from the extra wideangle provided by the 19mm end of the range.

The “converter effect” is typically around 1.5x the focal length available on a 35mm film camera, so 19mm becomes 28mm, as opposed to a 24mm (36mm) or 28mm (42mm) focal length lens.

The AF19-35mm provides stable and high image quality throughout the zoom range through the employment of Tamron’s renowned BBAR (Broad Band Anti-Reflection) multiple-layer coating. This multi-coating ensures high light transmission and excellent colour fidelity that results in crisp, saturated images. Distortion is minimised, even at the super-wideangle end, and contrast performance is optimised over the entire focal length range.

In addition, the lens hood is an included accessory that should be used at all times outdoors. Tamron’s flower-shaped dedicated lens hood ensures optimum shading at both super-wideangle 19mm and standard 35mm wideangle.
