May 5, 2005: Tamron’s AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Aspherical (IF) Macro lens is now on sale in Australia at an RRP of $899.
Designed specifically for digital SLR cameras, it is available with mounts to suit Nikon, Konica Minolta, Canon or Pentax DSLR cameras. Based on the best-selling Tamron AF 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR zoom lens, the compact 18-200mm lens was recently named as ‘Consumer Lens of the Year’ at the annual European TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) awards. It incorporates XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass in an innovative way that optimises the overall distribution of light through the entire zoom range. Three hybrid aspherical lens elements and two LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements are used to compensate for on-axis and lateral chromatic aberrations, a critical factor in optical quality in digital photography. The new 18-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 0.45m over the entire zoom range, which is better than a conventional 28-300mm zoom lens. It measures 83.7mm in length and weighs only 423g and includes a Zoom Lock to prevent unwanted barrel extension when carrying the lens/camera combination. A glare-reducing flower-shaped lens hood is included as a standard accessory.
