March 7, 2007: The Tamron AF
Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro lens goes on sale in Australia in March with Canon and Nikon lens mount options currently available and Sony and Pentax mounts in following months.
Weighing only 430 grams and measuring 84.3 x 74.4 mm, the AF 18-250mm lens is designed specifically for DSLR cameras with APS-C sized imagers. It offers a zoom ratio of 13.9 times plus a minimum focusing distance of 45 cm throughout the zoom range and a magnification ratio of 1:3.5 at the tele end of the zoom range. The optical system uses an LD (Low Dispersion) glass element and one AD (Anomalous Dispersion) lens in the first group to minimise on-axis chromatic aberration while achieving the 250mm ultra-tele focal length. In addition, careful positioning of two hybrid aspherical lens elements enables the lens to be kept relatively compact, despite its 13.9x zoom power. Minimum aperture is f/22 and the lens consists of 16 elements in 13 groups with a 7-bladed iris diaphragm.
Internal surface coatings in the form of multiple-layer coatings on both cemented and non-cemented lens elements minimize the incidence of ghosting and flare due to reflections that occur when light enters through the front element and reflections caused by the imager itself. A glare-reducing flower-shaped lens hood is included as a standard accessory. A Zoom Lock prevents unwanted barrel extension when carrying the lens/camera combination. RRP for the Tamron 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 lens is $795.00. Full details can be found at www.maxwell.com.au.
