March 10, 2005: Sony has released details of its slimmest digicam yet, the DSC-T7, which is 15 mm thick and weighs only 134 grams – with battery and card.
The T7 sports a 5.8 x 4.35mm Super HAD CCD sensor with 5-megapixel resolution plus a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3x optical zoom. The lens is enclosed in the camera body and up to 2x digital zoom plus up to 4x Smart Zoom extensions are provided. The rear body panel is two-thirds covered by a 2.5-inch ‘hybrid’ Clear Photo LCD screen, which improves viewing quality by preventing reflected light from interfering with the displayed image. It also boasts higher contrast, brightness and resolution than conventional displays. No viewfinder is provided.
As well as full auto operation, the T7 includes ten Scene Selection modes, covering situations such as twilight, fireworks, beach or snow, a magnifying glass mode for macro shooting up to 1cm from the object and a high-speed burst mode for quick action capture. The camera is ready for shooting within a second after the user slides the front lens cover down and can capture full-resolution images at approximately one-second intervals. Its rechargeable InfoLithium battery allows users to record roughly 180 shots per charge.
The T7 is supplied with a 32 MB Memory Stick Duo media card but users can capture and play back MPEG video with 640×480 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second with an optional Memory Stick PRO Duo media card. The camera is also PictBridge enabled, allowing shots to be printed directly on a compatible printer. It is scheduled for release mid-year and details of local release dates and pricing will be posted on this website when they are available.
