December 8, 2005: A cinematic presentation of images from areas of Pakistan devastated by the major earthquake in October 2005 will be shown at the Leica Gallery in Melbourne on 15 December at 6.30 p.m.
The images are by renowned photojournalist, Mathias Heng, who is also founder and director of Leica Gallery, Melbourne. A highlight of the evening will be a discussion by Mathias Heng explaining how the images were captured and the challenges he faced. A fee of $25 per person plus a $2.50 booking fee will be charged to attend the performance. All proceeds will go to Mø©decins Sans Frontiø¨res/Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
This is a unique opportunity to view images from the earthquake that killed more than 78,000 people and severely injured 69,000 people. Aid agencies fear the death toll could rise with winter fast approaching and the tough terrain making it difficult for emergency workers to access people in need of assistance. It is a race against time with 350,000 people urgently needing shelter and 2.5 million people facing the Himalayan winter in tents not designed for such conditions.
The exhibition aims to inform, share and inspire the general public to give generously to MSF. Leica products and wallets and bags from the region will also be for sale on the night. The Leica Gallery is located at Gasworks Arts Park, 21 Graham Street, Albert Park. For bookings, phone (03) 9699 3253.
