Sony has announced the release next month of a new DT55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 SAM telephoto zoom lens for A-mount cameras.
Optimised for all Alpha-mount camera models with APS-C sensors, the new lens provides a versatile 5.5x magnification range with equivalent fields of view ranging from 82.5mm to 450mm in 35mm format, making it ideal for sports and wildlife photography.Features include a quiet Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) that is compatible with the high-speed AF tracking capabilities of cameras with Translucent Mirror Technology. The optical design of this lens comprises 12 element in 9 groups and includes an ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass element similar to those used in Sony’s premium G lenses. Its cminimum focusing distance is 1.4 metres, where it provides up to 0.27x magnification (roughly 1/3 life size). Measuring 77 x 116.5 mm and weighing just 460 grams, the SAL55300 lens is supplied with front and rear caps and the ALC-SH112 solid circular bayonet-type lens hood.
