September 5, 2004: Sony’s new DCR-PC350 Handycam combines a 3-megapixel CCD sensor with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 10x zoom lens and a new Handycam Station that increases connectivity options.

Weighing only 440 grams, the PC350 replaces the current PC-330 model and is 20% smaller than its predecessor. It is expected to retail for $2399 and comes with the Handycam Station that comnines a battery charger with a simple connection to a computer or TV set. When editing video clips, users simply connect the PC350 to a computer via the supplied i.Link or USB cable and use the supplied ‘Click to DVD’ software. The same interfaces also allow the PC350 to be used as a webcam for video conferencing. Playback on a TV set is via the supplied AV cable and users can control playback functions with the supplied remote control. The handycam Station can also be connected to a DVD recorder via i.Link, allowing users to archive video clips to DVD.
The PC350 can capture true 16:9 widescreen video and it’s equipped with enhanced signal processing that detects even small changes in brightness levels and allows the camera to adjust exposures accordingly. Users can capture high-resolution still pictures and store them on a Sony Memory Stick Duo card. The hybrid LCD screen doubles as a touch panel for adjusting camera settings and a streamlined user interface includes a second record and zoom button for quick and easy access.
A semi-soft carrying case that protects the PC350 and allows it to be worn around the waist or carried as a shoulder bag is available as an optional accessory for $89.95. It includes a special pouch for batteries and additional Memory Sticks.
