Sony reinforces its commitment to 4K video with the announcement of a new 4K camcorder and 4K Action Cam plus new additions to its Full HD camcorder and Action Cam line-ups.

The new Handycam FDR-AXP35 is approximately 30% smaller and 20% lighter than current 4K camcorder and supports the efficient XAVC S recording format, which is easy to store, edit and share. It also offers a new extra-high bit-rate of 100Mbps that delivers clearer and sharper footage. The FDR-AXP35 is also Sony’s first 4K camcorder featuring Balanced Optical SteadyShot (B.O.SS), a more powerful image stabilisation system designed for   4K video. Pro-style refinements to the control system include a manual ring and button that can be assigned to functions like zoom, focus and exposure. The FDR-AXP35 also features an ISO-compatible Multi Interface shoe which accepts a variety of add-on accessories plus a high-performance electronic viewfinder (EVF) that reveals three times the detail of previous models and a 3-inch wide Xtra Fine LCD with WhiteMagic display.

The supplied HDMI cable lets users connect the FDR-AXP35 to a 4K television set for playback. Alternatively, it can be connected to any Full HD TV for super-sampled Full HD playback. Users can ‘trim’ 4K images, cropping backgrounds and blowing up a chosen portion of the frame to fill the screen with Full HD quality using the zoom lever or on-screen icon. This camcorder also includes a built-in projector with a powerful 50 lumen brightness.
Sony’s Full HD camcorder line-up is expanded with three new models, the HDR-PJ620, PJ410 and CX405, all offering HD recording quality and image stabilisation. Standard on all Handycam models, Highlight Movie Maker makes it easy for users to create and share short movies with transition effects and background music for sharing with friends and family on YouTube or Facebook.

The new FDR-X1000V Action Cam from Sony enables users to record high-bitrate footage at 4K 30p 100/60Mbps using the XAVC S format. Sony has also announced a Full HD Action Cam, the HDR-AS200V. Both new models feature an ultra-wide angle ZEISS Tessar lens with a 170-degree field of view that covers a panoramic perspective. New advanced SteadyShot stabilisation ensures footage is clear and stable.

Brand-new Loop Recording on the FDR-X1000V and HDR-AS200V ensures unanticipated events aren’t missed. Like many pro-quality broadcast cameras, Action Cam continuously records video into its memory card buffer. Hit the record button when something happens suddenly ““ and the camera has already captured the start of the scene.

The high-quality stereo mic on both cameras now features new Wind Noise Reduction. Built-in Wi-Fi connects either camera with the new RM-LVR2 Live-View Remote controller, which is waterproofed and wrist-mounted. It also enables wireless control and monitoring of up to five connected cameras. An extended accessory line-up includes different mounting clamps and waterproof housings.
