May 18, 2009: Sony Europe has released details of three new easy-to-use DSLR cameras that have been added to the Alpha line-up: the DSLR-A230, DSLR-A330 and DSLR-A380.
All three cameras have been styled for comfortable handling and all feature APS-C sized image sensors and 2.7-inch LCD monitors. The 10.2-megapixel DSLR-A230 has a fixed LCD screen and claims to be the world’s lightest DSLR featuring an APS-C sized image sensor and in-body image stabilisation. The DSLR-A330 also features a 10.2-megapixel imager but its monitor tilts up or down to provide greater shooting flexibility. This tilting screen is also featured in the 14.2-megapixel DSLR-A380 model. All the new models accept Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media as well as SD/SDHC format memory cards.

The A330 and A380 feature Quick AF Live View for responsive ‘freestyle’ shooting. This system combines the benefits of live image preview with speedy and accurate autofocus, even with moving subjects. A new on-screen Help Guide and Graphic Display makes it easy for novice users to understand the key camera controls. Illustrations and text explanations are provided for all Scene modes and the graphical display shows how selected exposure settings will affect the final picture.

All three models come with Sony’s powerful BIONZ image processor, which underpins the new cameras’ speedy responses, allowing continuous shooting at up to 2.5 fps (2 fps in Live View mode for A330 and A380 only). A new self-timer drive mode grabs a quick burst of 3 or 5 frames, cutting the chances of spoiled portraits and groups shots.

Like every other Alpha camera, all new models feature Sony’s SteadyShot INSIDE in-body image stabilisation, which corrects for camera shake for all lenses the camera can use. A new D-Range Optimiser intelligently adjusts exposure values in scenes containing very bright image areas and deep contrasting shadows. All models connect to any HD Ready TV and Sony’s PhotoTV HD support ensures optimal still image reproduction on compatible BRAVIA models.
The new cameras are scheduled for local release in July. Pricing has still to be determined. For more information, visit www.sony.com.au or www.sony.com.
