The DT 35mm f/1.8 SAM (SAL35F18) lens is part of Sony’s ‘Easy Choice’ series of value-priced, compact and lightweight lenses. Weighing only 170 grams, it has a minimum focus of 23 cm and an internal Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) that drives the focussing group directly and ensures responsive and fluid autofocus operation. With a focal length equivalent to approximately 50mm on an APS-C sensor camera, this lens is ideal for snapshots and portraits. The fast f/1.8 maximum aperture is advantageous for hand-held shooting in low light. Sony’s new DT 35mm f/1.8 SAM (SAL35F18) lens. (Source: Sony.) The 85mm f/2.8 SAM (SAL85F28) is another ‘Easy Choice’ lens that covers a popular focal length for both ‘full frame’ and APS-C DSLRs. With the latter it has a focal length equivalent to 127.5mm in 35mm format. Ideal for portraiture with both camera types, it features a Sonnar-type optical design that focuses to 60 cm. The lens is sharp centre to corner and offers smooth defocusing thanks to its large f/2.8 maximum aperture and circular iris diaphragm. The 85mm f/2.8 SAM (SAL85F28) lens. (Source: Sony.) Key technical specifications of the three new lenses can be found in the table below, which was provided by Sony Europe.
