Sony has announced the impending release of the NEX-3N, which will replace the NEX-3F at the entry-level point in its E-mount interchangeable-lens compact camera line-up.

Weighing approximately 210grams, the NEX-3N features 16.1-megapixel effective resolution and comes with a 180 ° tiltable LCD screen and built-in pop-up flash. A new zoom lever, similar to those on Sony’s Cyber-shots, provides easy control over the lens focal length plus adjustment to the digital zoom position with unpowered lenses. It also enables one-handed portrait framing. The new camera also features Auto Object Framing, which enables it to evaluate the scene and automatically crop the shot to create more attractively-framed compositions.

Other features include the ability to create background blurring with E-mount lenses and record Full HD movies, although with a limited range of frame sizes. The camera’s large sensor also boosts maximum sensitivity to ISO 16000. It’s complemented by an evolved BIONZ processor with the same area-specific noise reduction techniques as used by the processor in the A99 camera. The NEX-3N is also the first NEX interchangeable lens camera from Sony that offers support for new ‘TRILUMINOS Colour’, which provides an expanded colour palette for images and movies displayed on Sony’s BRAVIA TV sets. The new camera is scheduled for release in Europe next month.
