May 1, 2006: Sony Ericsson has released the K800i, which is its first 3.2-megapixel cameraphone to carry the “Cyber-shot” brand.
The new handset has a classic Sony Ericsson design, with a large screen and responsive keypad plus a “dual-front” design. Turn the phone horizontally and slide the active lens cover downwards to reveal a user interface similar to that of a Cyber-shot digital still camera. Use the camera vertically for all phone-based applications. The K800i supports high speed 3G data transfer, making it ideal for shooting and sharing still pictures and videos. The camera is equipped with a Xenon flash for low-light shooting and a digital image stabiliser to minimise blurring caused by camera shake.
The camera provides some useful shooting controls, including a red-eye reduction flash mode and a new “BestPic” setting which captures nine high-resolution shots when you press the shutter release. These are displayed as icons on the screen and users can select the best shot for saving. The camera is PictBridge enabled for direct printing of still shots via a USB cable. It also comes with integrated Picture Blogging, which allows users to create and update personal blogs directly from the phone with a few clicks.
Business applications include full HTML browsing with RSS feeds and Google Search, standard push email and a connectivity suite comprising Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 and Memory Stick Micro card compatibility. On-board entertainment applications include a music player, 3D gaming and an RDS FM radio. The Sony Ericsson K800i Cyber-shot phone will be available in Australia in the third quarter of 2006. Its RRP has yet to be determined. Full product details can be found at www.sonyericsson.com.
