Next month will see the release of the new XQD S Series Memory Cards (QD-S32/S64), which claim to be the fastest available.

The new S Series cards are able to process at speeds of upto 168 MB/s, enabling them to handle large numbers of raw files at high burst capturespeeds and also support high definition video recording. Surpassing thetheoretical maximum speed of existing CompactFlash devices, the industryleading XQD S Series reduces transfer times by 30%, compared with the fastestCF cards. Photographers can now shoot a 100msprint from start to finish in a single, sustained burst of RAW images at ashooting speed of 10 frames per second. Thecard’s high capacity of 64GB makes XQD S Series ideal for sports photographers whomay be triggering the camera’s shutter remotely and cannot conveniently change media cards.

A new device driver for Thunderbolt compatible devices will beavailable for download from August 2012 and will allow users to transfer filesto their Macintosh computer systems at even quicker speeds, when used with acompatible card reader. From August, XQD S Series users canalso download a free new version of File Rescue (Ver 3.2) software by Sony for the recovery of accidentally-deletedphotos and videos. This utility supports the latest file formats of AVCHD and3D has recently expanded its capabilities to support RAW and MOV files. File Rescuesoftware is also available for XQD H Series users.
