October 2003: Sony’s new Cyber-shot DSC-T1 is similar in size to a deck of cards but boasts a 5-megpixel sensor and specially designed Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens that operates within the camera rather than extending out.
It has a sliding lens cover and a large 2.5-inch, rear-panel monitor that doubles as a viewfinder. Sony’s Real Imaging Processor circuit makes the T1 highly responsive. It’s ready to shoot within a second and can capture full-resolution images at one-second intervals or record a burst of four shots in less than two seconds.
Miniaturisation is aided by the use of Memory Stick Duo cards and a new rechargeable Info-Lithiumø‚ ® battery system that is roughly the size of a matchbox. The T1’s USB port, A/V Out and DC jacks have been relocated to the new camera docking station, which is supplied with the camera.
Movies are captured in MPEG-VX Fine mode and are good enough to display on a TV set. Eight still shooting modes are provided, along with a Magnifying Glass (digital zoom) scene mode that enlarges subjects up to 3.3x. Exposure and focusing are fully automatic.
The DSC-T1 is due for release in December and will carry an RRP of $1099. For details go to www.sony.com.au.
