June 22, 2005: Next month will see the Australian release of Sony’s new HDR-HC1 (HC1), the smallest high-definition video (HDV) camcorder on the market.
Designed to bridge the gap between standard and high-definition video for a wide audience, the HC1 weighs only 780 grams (with battery installed) and measures 71 x 94 x 188 mm. Key features of the new model include a 4.8 x 3.6 mm primary colour, 3-megapixel CMOS sensor and a high-precision Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens with multi-layer optical coatings to minimise ghosting and flare. Sony’s Enhanced Imaging Processor allows the HC1 to capture video with a wide dynamic range and full tonal fidelity. It also minimises power usage, eliminating the need for bulky batteries.
The HC1 is the first camcorder that can record high quality 1.2-megapixel still images while recording movies or when movie clips are being played back. In Memory mode, 2.8-megapixel still images can be recorded. Users can also choose between shooting in HDV1080i (16:9 aspect ratio) or Standard DV format (16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio). Movies recorded in HDV can be viewed directly on HD-compatible TVs, while for users with regular Standard Definition (SD) TVs, the high performance down conversion function of the HC1 automatically converts the recorded HD movies to SD images.
A four-capsule microphone black and new audio circuit allow the HC1 to record clear, crisp and dramatic sound with reduced noise interference. The HC1 comes with a broad palette of user-programmable settings that promises more flexibility during shooting. Functions like Tele Macro, Expanded Focus/Peaking, Shot Transition, Histogram Indicator and Soft Skin Tone provide users with a wide and creative platform to work from. At launch, the Sony High Definition Handycam HDR-HC1 will be priced at $3499. For further information on Sony’s Handycam range, phone Sony Australia on 1300 720 071 or visit www.sony.com.au.
