Roughly a month out from Photokina, Sony has released details of its ILCE-α5100 CSC, which claims to be the smallest interchangeable lens camera with an APS-C sensor.

Due for local release in September at an RRP of AU$899, the new camera features a high-sensitivity 24.3 megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor and powerful BIONZ X processor. It also includes a built-in flash and Wi-Fi and the same Fast Hybrid AF system as the ?6000, which uses 179 phase detection points to freeze rapid action. The 180 ° tiltable touch enabled LCD Monitor makes it easy to capture ‘selfies’ and supports Touch Focus and Touch Shutter functions. In-camera soft-skin effect enhances skin tones.

Video recording includes support for the increasingly popular pro-focused XAVC S format at 50 Mbps as well as regular HD movie modes. An SDXC memory card with a Class 10 or higher speed rating is required for XAVC S recording. Sharing photos and movie clips (MP4) with phones, tablets and TVs is easy. NFC allows one-touch transfer and Wi-Fi Direct allows easy wireless transfer to compatible Android and iOS devices. One-touch linkage also activates Smart Remote Control for framing shots and firing the camera shutter from a smart device’s screen. New accessories include the easy-to-carry RM-SPR1 remote. Downloadable PlayMemories Camera Apps enable users to expand their creative possibilities with a growing range of free and paid-for apps that include handy utilities, fun effects and creative tools.
