March 25, 2009: Sony Australia is adding nine new high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) Handycam camcorders to its range and offering some new technologies to attract purchasers.
The new additions include both Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and flash memory-based models. The flagship Handycam HDR-XR520V camcorder (RRP $2699) includes a 240GB HDD storage capacity which can store up to 96 hours of Full HD movie recording, which is claimed as the largest capacity in the current camcorder market. It also supports 12-megapixel still image capture and includes a Dual Recording mode that allows users to shoot up to 8.3 megapixel still images while recording video.

Also offering HDD storage but with a 120GB drives are the HDR-XR500V ($2499), which supports 12-megapixel still image capture and HDR-XR200V ($1999) which records 4-megapixel stills. These three models come with Sony’s new Optical Active SteadyShot stabilisation, which provides a 10 times wider camera shake correction angle than conventional Optical SteadyShot technology. They also feature a new Exmor R CMOS sensor and integrated GPS tagging. The HDR-XR520V and HDR-XR500V camcorders also come with high performance Sony G lenses.
The HDR-XR100 camcorder (RRP $1499) features an 80GB hard disk drive and supports 4-megapixel still image capture. The Handycam CX100 camcorder (RRP $1199) comes in two colour variations (red or black) and boasts a sleek, compact chassis. It captures 1920 x 1080i Full HD recording on its 8GB internal memory and direct movie recording on Memory Stick, thanks to the HYBRID design feature. Face detection and Smile Shutter technolog ies are included, along with Auto Backlight Correction. The BIONZ image processor delivers 4-megapixel still image recording and Smooth Slow Recording at 240 fields per second.
The slim Handycam SX-series camcorders combine portability and style, with the DCR-SX60 (RRP $649) model offered in silver and the compact DCR-SX40 (RRP $529) available in silver, blue and red. Both models allow direct movie recording on either the internal memory of up to 16GB (DCR-SX60) or Memory Stick, with a maximum recording time of approximately 11 hours The SX-series features a high-magnification 60x zoom lens to capture faraway subjects and when the camcorder is connected to the optional DVDirect Express (VRD-P1) DVD Writer, users can effortlessly burn video footage on DVD with just a touch of a button. The Handycam DCR-SR67 (RRP $829) and DCR-SR47 (RRP $749) camcorders both feature a high magnification zoom lens of up to 60x, while the DCR-SR67 also features Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator and a built-in zoom microphone, enabling realistic and clear surround sound during playback. Storage capacity is up to 80GB in the SR67 or 60GB in the SR47, the former allowing up to 61 hours of recording time. The flexible HYBRID design allows direct movie recording to Memory Stick as well as one-touch disc burn when connected to the optional DVDirect Express (VRD-P1) DVD Writer. The DCR-SR47 is available in silver, red and blue.
