May 20, 2006: Sigma has released details of a new telephoto zoom lens with a large maximum aperture of f2.8 that remains constant throughout the zoom range. Designed specifically for DSLR cameras, the APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG HSM lens claims excellent performance throughout the zoom range, thanks to its optical design and components. Consisting of 17 elements in 14 groups, the new lens has two SLD (the special low dispersion) glass elements in the front lens group and another two in the rear group to provide excellent correction of chromatic aberration. A new multi layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghosting and ensure an optimum colour balance through the entire zoom range. Other features include a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), which ensures silent, high-speed autofocusing as well as full-time manual focusing and internal focusing eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens ideal for use with a petal-type lens hood (supplied) and circular polarisers. Focusing and zooming do not change its overall length and a rotating tripod mount can be conveniently detached, if required. The new lens will be released with Sigma, Canon, and Nikon lens mounts. It can also be used with the 1.4x EX or 2.0x EX Apo Tele Converters (optional), becoming a 98-280mm F4 Autofocus telephoto zoom lens or a 140-400mm F5.6 Autofocus telephoto zoom lens respectively. Sigma lenses are distributed in Australia by C.R. Kennedy & Company. Visit www.crkennedy.com.au for more information.
