Designed primarily for DSLR cameras with 36 x 24mm (‘full frame’) sensors, the new lens will be available in Sigma, Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts and will be supplied with a soft case and petal-shaped lens hood. Offering a constant f/4 maximum aperture across the focal length range, the 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lens will produce superior image quality to meet the specifications of the latest high-end cameras, It includes optical stabilisation and an HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) AF drive, which ensures fast and quiet autofocusing. Full-time manual focusing is available in AF mode.
The optical construction features 19 elements in 14 groups and includes FLD, SLD and glass-moulded aspheric lenses with one double-sided aspheric lens. It suppresses chromatic aberration very effectively at telephoto-end and minimises vignetting, with Super Multi-Layer Coating applied to reduce flare and ghosting and provide sharp, high contrast images even in backlit conditions.
The 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lens has a minimum focusing distance of 45cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.6, which is suitable for close-up photography. The nine-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive bokeh at large-aperture settings. This lens can be fitted with 82 mm filters. It has a diameter of 88.5 mm and is 109.4 mm long. The overall weight is 885 grams.
All metallic parts and parts made with the new compound material, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has a high affinity to metal, are housed internally. The brass made bayonet mount provides both high accuracy and durability. The designs of the lens cap and AF/MF changeover switch have been improved. On the zoom ring, the last three digits of its release year are engraved for easy identification of its launch date.
The new lens is compatible with Sigma’s optional USB dock, which enables users to easily update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus using SIGMA Optimization Pro dedicated software.
