Australian Sigma distributor, CR Kennedy, has taken an innovative approach to launching the new Sigma DP2, using actual pictures taken with the camera, rather than a purple-prosed press release to argue its worth. The Sigma DP2 is one of the new wave of non-DSLR, interchangeable lens cameras with the potential to capture DSLR-standard images, due to their use of a large area imaging sensors with nice big picture elements. The new Micro Four Thirds Olympus PEN E-P1 and Panasonic GH1 are also part of this new category, with insider speculation that other big brand manufacturers will soon join the club. Fifteen Australian creative types, including much-hyped young Melbourne band The Temper Trap, fashion designer Bridget McCall and, my goodness, an actual photographer in highly rated fashion snapper Monty Coles, have been out and about with a DP2 to contribute to an exhibition titled ‘Extra Ordinary’ ““ capturing “everyday ordinary objects that they find extraordinary”. The resulting images, along with explanations behind each, will be on show at the Guildford Lane Gallery, 20 ““ 24 Guildford Lane, Melbourne from Friday, August 28 through to Sunday, September 6. Ten prints of each image will be available for sale. Be the first in your neighbourhood to have an original Temper Trap on your walls!
