Sigma and its Australian distributor, C.R. Kennedy, will release the new Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM lens in Australia from late July.
Designed to suit DSLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors, this lens will be offered in mounts for Sigma, Pentax, Sony, Canon and Nikon cameras at an RRP of AU$649. Its compact size, high zoom ratio and high performance make it an excellent general-purpose lens for travel and leisure photography.
In this lens, Sigma has pioneered a new material, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which is incorporated into the lens barrel. TSC has a higher degree of elasticity than traditional polycarbonate, reducing expansion and contraction in extreme temperature fluctuations. TSC also contributes to the lens’s light weight and compact size, enabling parts such as the zoom ring and scaling to be slimmer. A brass mount provides for long-term use and enables high mounting accuracy and solidity.
The optical design includes a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element for correction of colour aberration plus three aspherical lenses (one double-sided) to correct other common aberrations. Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. The rounded seven-blade diaphragm creates attractive bokeh, while a HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures fast and quiet auto-focusing.
Sigma’s proprietary Optical Stabiliser (OS) offers effective correction of approximately four f-stops across the zoom range for cameras without in-body stabilisation (Sony and Pentax mounts lack the OS function). It can compensate camera shake even in macro range photography where a small blur can be easily identified. It automatically detects camera movement during panning and offers effective correction for camera shake.
