Eight Australian photographers have been included in the shortlist for the 2009 Sony World Photography Awards, which was announced today.

 

February 24, 2009: Eight Australian photographers have been included in the shortlist for the 2009 Sony World Photography Awards, which was announced today.
The Honorary Judging Committee, comprising world-renowned photographers, curators, representatives from leading international photo agencies, publishers and critics made their selection from 36,546 professional and 25,370 amateur photography submissions. The list contains the names of 186 photographers from 43 different countries, all of them competing in a variety of categories in one of the most prestigious photographic competitions in the world.

In the Photojournalism and Documentary category, Australian photographers Ezra Shaw and Mick Tsikas have been shortlisted in the professional section for Sport. In the Commercial category, Jaclyn Adams is listed twice in the Fashion section for Amateur photographers. In the Fine Art category, Lisa Wiltse and Tim Clayton are listed among the professional photographers in the Portraiture section, while Lisa Maree Williams and Steve Morenos are among the professional photographers’ shortlisted in the Natural History section. Greg Lamont is included in the amateur shortlist for the Natural History section.
Judging will take place in the coming weeks and winners will be announced in stages. The Student Focus competition finalists will be announced on 3 March and the professional and amateur category finalists will be announced on 17 March.
