April 16, 2007: SanDisk and Sony have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding that will lead to the development of the SxS (S-by-S) memory card specification, which supports high-speed transfer technology compliant to the ExpressCard industry standard.
The new high-performance and high-reliability memory cards will provide significant workflow improvements for professional camcorders and non-linear video editing systems. They will offer high-speed data transfer of large video files with a maximum data transfer speed of 800 megabits per second in a compact format that is half the size of PC Cards (width: 34mm, height: 5mm, length: 75mm). Cards will connect directly to computer systems through the high-speed PCI-Express bus, which has a maximum data transfer speed of 2.5 gigabits per second.
Sony will adopt this high-speed SxS memory card specification in its ø¢â‚¬Å“XDCAM EXø¢â‚¬Å“ series professional camcorders. SxS memory cards from SanDisk and Sony are expected to be available later in 2007.
