September 27, 2006: SanDisk will shortly release the world’s highest capacity CompactFlash card, which is targeted at high-volume professional photographers, along with the first 4GB SDHC card.
The new SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash cards will be available in 16 GB and 12 GB capacities and are ideal for photographers who shoot raw files and need cards with high performance, reliability and high storage capacity. The new cards offer minimum write and read speeds of 20 megabytes/second and carry a ‘lifetime’ warranty. They can also be used with the Grass Valley Infinity Series Digital Media Camcorder, the first camcorder introduced in the broadcast industry that uses non-proprietary, removable, solid-state flash memory cards as recording and playback media.
SanDisk Extreme III cards use proprietary ESP (Enhanced Super-Parallel Processing) technology that combines advanced NAND flash memory chips and controller designs, 32-bit RISC processing and leading edge algorithms in an architecture that streamlines read and write data transfer operations to minimise the effect of the card as the bottleneck in data storage applications. SanDisk works closely with major camera manufacturers to ensure speed and compatibility.
Announced concurrently with the new CF cards is the SanDisk Extreme USB 2.0 reader, which is designed to transfer images as quickly as possible. Priced at $US24.99 it is scheduled for worldwide release in November. The new 12 GB and 16 GB Extreme II CF cards will ship in December and are priced at $US779.99 and $US1049.99 respectively. The cards are supplied with RescuePRO software, which allows photographers to easily recover accidentally deleted images, lost digital images or data.

SanDisk has also announced a new 4 GB Ultra II SD High Capacity (SDHC) card, which supports write speeds of 9 MB/second and read speeds of 10MB/sec. The cards are targeted at digital photography enthusiasts with 5 megapixel or higher resolution digital cameras or video shooters with camcorders that require significantly faster flash storage cards. Due for worldwide release in October, they are priced at $US219.99. The SanDisk MicroMate USB 2.0 reader, which normally retails for $US19.99, will be bundled with the 4GB SanDisk Ultra II SDHC card at no extra charge. SDHC cards require an SDHC-compatible reader to transfer images from card to computer, and the MicroMate readers work with both SDHC and SD cards.
