March 17, 2007: SanDisk has expanded its memory card with announcements of an 8GB SDHC card and a new line of microSD memory cards aimed at the mobile phone market.

The new 8GB SDHC card is the highest capacity currently available in this format. It can hold up to 4,000 high-resolution images or up to 15 hours of digital video in MPEG4 format. It will be supplied with a SanDisk MicroMate USB 2.0 reader which also works with standard SD cards and is scheduled for release in the second quarter of this year. SanDisk will also use the SDHC designation for cards in any SD format larger than 2GB that adhere to the new SD 2.0 specification. In previous specifications top capacity for SD cards was 2GB, while SDHC supports up to 32GB.

SanDisk’s new line of performance-oriented microSD memory cards provides increased storage for videos, music, ring tones, digital images and other files in the latest multimedia-capable mobile phones. Read/write speeds of 10MB and 9MB per second (respectively) allow fast data transfer between the card and a PC. Offered in 1GB and 2GB capacities, the fingernail-size cards will be supplied with an adapter to fit standard SD card slots.

The new MicroSD cards will be equipped with SanDisk’s TrustedFlash technology, which allows network operators to sell premium content that can be downloaded directly to mobile phones, stored on the cards and played on other TrustedFlash-enabled devices authorised by the network provider. They are due for worldwide release in the second quarter of 2007. Full product details can be found at www.sandisk.com.
