March 11, 2005: SanDisk has doubled the capacity of its largest xD-Picture Card with the announcement of a 1 GB (Type M) version at CeBit in Hanover.
The announcement follows the introduction last month of 10 new, 4-megapixel and higher digital cameras by Olympus and Fujifilm that are fully compatible with 1GB xD-Picture Cards. The new cards will match the higher file sizes and video capabilities of the latest digicams and ensure users can take plenty of pictures each time they use their camera and not worry about running out of memory. The M series xD-Picture Cards, whose capacity can be increased to 8GB in the future, will be sold in SanDisk packaging under the Olympus and Fuji brand labels. The Type M cards will be so identified on the packaging.
SanDisk has also expanded its Cruzer range of USB flash storage drives. The new Cruzer Profile is a portable, hi-speed USB 2.0 flash memory storage drive with added personal security capability to safeguard data, images, presentations and other personal information. It includes embedded fingerprint identification technology that restrict access to only the designated user(s) of the device plus portable password manager, which will work on any host PC.
SanDisk’s 2 GB Cruzer Titanium is a sleek, USB 2.0 hi-speed flash storage drive that is virtually indestructible and designed to physically protect the valuable data of business and power users. It comes pre-loaded with the full versions of value-added portable software programs, including CruzerLock 2, a data file encryption program; CruzerSync, which synchronizes with Outlook data; and Cruzer PocketCache, which allows for file backups with minimal memory consumption. USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) ensures Cruzer Titanium is “plug and play” with Windows and Macintosh PCs.
The new products are scheduled to start shipping in April. For details, visit www.sandisk.com.
