October 25, 2006: The latest member of Samsung’s NV Series of slimline cameras, the NV7 OPS, is now available in Australia.
Featuring a 7.2-megapixel imager and 2.5-inch CLD monitor, the NV7 OPS boasts a 7x optical zoom lens plus double anti-shake protection. OPS (Optical Picture Stabilisation) uses an Image Sensor Shift mechanism that moves the sensor to counteract movement caused by camera shake. ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction) technology prevents the degradation of image clarity and colour that occurs with flash photography, producing sharper pictures in low light conditions. The camera also includes an auto sensitivity feature that automatically adjusts sensitivity up to ISO 1000, according to the ambient exposure conditions.
The NV7 OPS features the same “Smart Touch” user interface as the NV10 model and many of the same features. Its slimline body is only 20.9 mm thick and is made from low-lustre black aluminium. The lens has been sourced from Schneider-Kreuznach and features a characteristic blue ring. A pop-up flash is provided – but no optical viewfinder. Users can select from six shooting modes: auto, Program AE, Scene, ASR, A/S/M and Effect. The Scene mode contains 12 mode settings, including a Continuous shooting mode.
Shutter speeds range from two to ½,000 second, with up to four second exposures possible in Night mode. Multi, centre-weighted and spot metering are supported and the lens can focus to 80 cm in normal mode, from 10 cm to 80 cm in Macro mode and from 1cm to 10 cm with the Super Macro setting. A Motion Capture records up to 20 XGA (1024×768) frames at 7fps and up to 50images can be turned into a GIF Animation. Video clips can be recorded in TV quality MPEG-4 VGA (640×480) format at 30 fps. The NV7 OPS is supplied with a high capacity SBP-4442 battery recharge kit but the battery can also be charged while connected to USB. RRP for the NV7 OPS is $699.
