May 22, 2006: Samsung Techwin and Pentax have both displayed 10-megapixel DSLR cameras at the Photo & Imaging Show, which opened in Seoul, South Korea last Thursday.

Most of the specifications of the new models have yet to be revealed and the cameras on display were prototype models. The Pentax even lacks a model name, although the Samsung has been tentatively dubbed the GX2 (although whether it will be GX-II or GX-2 has yet to be clarified). Superficially, both cameras appear to offer a standard control suite with a pop-up flash, mode dial and multiple AF modes. The sensor appears to have a multiplier/crop factor of 1.5 times.

It seems likely the Pentax model will be supplied with a Pentax lens, while the Samsung will be partnered by a Schneider-Kreuznach optic, although the mounts for both cameras are the same. We’ll keep you posted.
