August 14, 2009: Samsung has unveiled two new digicams, the ST500 and ST550, which feature Dual LCD screens on front and back to aid portraiture.
Each model has a 1.5-inch LCD located on the front of the camera, which allows users to take photos whether they are behind the camera or in front of it. This arrangement is ideal for self-portraits and group shots that include the photographer because the front LCD screen can be used to check shot composition.

The Samsung ST550 also features the world’s highest resolution 3.5-inch Wide Touch Screen Back LCD, with a resolution of 1,152.000-dots. The new ST500 model is for users who would like the dual screen, but who don’t require such a highly-specified camera. Its touch screen is a 3-inch LCD with 230,000 dots. Both models boast Schneider-Kreuznach27mm (35mm equivalent) wide-angle lens with 4.6x optical zoom and 12.2-megapixel CCD image sensors. Both models also support HD video recording in 1280 x 720p resolution at 30 frames per second using the efficient H.264 compression format.

Another feature of both models is Smart Face Recognition technology, which will adjust the focus and exposure on up to 20 faces in a frame and allows users to quickly search for people in the in-camera album instead of viewing every photo. A new Children mode makes the front LCD play a fun animation to capture a child’s attention while their photo is being taken. The Shutter Info feature also helps ensure the subject of a picture smiles at the right moment. The front LCD will display a “smiley face” when the shutter is pushed halfway, signalling the perfect time to smile and get ready for the photo.
The ST550 also comes with an HDMI connection which allows HD videos to be watched directly on an HD TV set or HD Monitor. The ST550 and ST500 will be available in Australia from September 2009. For more information, visit www.samsungcamera.com.
