December 29, 2010: In the lead-in to the CES show in Las Vegas next month, Samsung has released details of its latest NX-series camera, the NX11.
Essentially an upgraded model based on the NX10, the NX11 adds compatibility with the i-Function lenses, which were introduced with the NX100. The NX11 will be offered with an 18-55mm i-Function lens, as well as two new i-Function lenses: a 20mm ‘pancake’ and a 20-50mm zoom. The i-Function system allows photographers to use their left hand to change settings through a button built into the i-Function lens. Users can toggle between shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO with this button.
Additionally, the NX11 sports a redesigned grip and a lens priority mode dial that makes it easier to find the best mode for each lens. A new panorama mode allows the user to take panoramic pictures in one press-and-sweep motion. Raw file capture is supported, along with RAW+JPEG.
Basic specifications remain unchanged. The NX11 has the same 23.4 x 15.6 mm 14.6-megapixel CMOS sensor as the NX10, along with a 3-inch AMOLED monitor with 921,000-dot resolution. A built-in electronic VGA (640×480) viewfinder and TTL Auto pop-up flash are also provided, along with an accessory hot-shoe. Video clips can be recorded at 1280 x 720-pixel resolution in MP4 (H.264) mode with a frame rate of 30 fps. The NX11 measures 123 x 87 x 39.8 mm and weighs 353 grams (without battery and memory card). It is scheduled for global release from February. No product images have been released as yet.
