Ross Halfin was a “face” on the London music circuit as a freelance photographer when revolutionary bands such as The Clash, the Sex Pistols, The Specials, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden and The Jam electrified the capital’s gig scene.

The limited edition works span four decades and legendary subjects, including Led Zeppelin, The Who and Black Sabbath. Each of the 12 bars has chosen 10 images to exhibit, in collaboration with Halfin, that best represent their venues.
The images will rotate and be exhibited until the end of the year at Sydney bars Earl’s Juke Joint, The Anchor and Vasco; Melbourne bars The Attic at Black Pearl, Kodiak Club and The Beaufort; Brisbane bars The Bowery, The Lark, and Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall and Perth’s 399 Bar, Ezra Pound and Helvetica. All images on display at the bars and grand exhibition are available for purchase.
Despite starting out as a freelance photographer as the punk scene happened, deep down Halfin remained in thrall to the louder-than-life bands who had moulded his own adolescence “” The Who, Led Zeppelin, Free, Black Sabbath. In 1981 he decided to shine a spotlight on their young acolytes by co-founding Kerrang!, Europe’s first dedicated Hard Rock magazine.
When a new generation of young bands emerged “” among them Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Def Leppard and Mø¶tley Crø¼e “” within the worlds of hard rock and heavy metal, Halfin’s iconic imagery made him almost as (in)famous as the acts he immortalised.
These days Ross Halfin travels the planet capturing tomorrow’s history today for album and magazine covers, advertising campaigns and award shows: recent clients include Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Aerosmith, Metallica, Queens Of The Stone Age and Led Zeppelin. In addition to curating acclaimed photographic exhibitions worldwide, he has edited several books of his own about artists such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica and The Who.
