March 31, 2006: Ricoh has released a new high-speed digicam, the Caplio R4, which features a 6-megapixel sensor and wide-angle 7.1x optical zoom lens.
Available in black or metallic silver, the new Caplio R4 uses Ricoh’s “small but powerful” double retracting lens system which splits the lens shaft into three smaller segments so it fits into the compact, slimline body. The new model sports a 2.5 inch high-resolution screen and an improved hybrid autofocus system that allows the camera to lock on quickly to subjects, minimising capture lag. Ricoh’s CCD Shift Method Vibration system detects and compensates for hand-shake the moment the shutter button is pressed. The result is clearer images, especially in macro mode. The R4 can focus to 1 cm in this mode.
Other features include a multipoint focus system to confirm pre-shooting focus accuracy, several exposure modes and an angle correction mode to straighten skewed images. Video clips are recorded in AVI mode and the rechargeable battery can take up to 330 standard shots per charge. The Caplio R4 is due for release in April at an RRP of $599.
