May 10, 2005: Ricoh will release its first 8-megapixel digicam, the Caplio GX8, at the end of this month.
Equipped with a 3x wide-angle zoom lens (28-85mm equivalent) with an aperture range of 2.5 to 4.3, the new model delivers sharp, clear pictures without distortion or aberration, even at the wide-angle setting. Photographers can choose between fully automatic or manual exposure or select aperture priority auto and image files can be recorded as either JPEGs or in uncompressed TIFF format. The 1.8-inch high-resolution LCD screen has 130,000 pixels, providing optimum image clarity in bright conditions. Users can call up histogram information on-screen for quick analysis of exposure accuracy prior to shooting.
Like other high-end Ricoh cameras, the Caplio GX8 is ready to shoot in 1.2 seconds and has a shutter response time of just 0.12 second. It also sports a multi-shot continuous shooting mode that captures 16 consecutive images in approximately two seconds and stores them in a single file. Other features include an advanced 1cm macro for ultra close-up photos and a long-life lithium-ion battery (valued at $150) that can take up to 400 shots from one charge. The GX8 is also compatible with standard AA alkaline batteries.
The Ricoh Caplio GX8 will be on show at Photo Imaging World, which runs from 13-15 May at the Brisbane Convention Centre. It will be in stores from 23 May, selling for an RRP of $799. Phone 1 300 363 741 for stockist details or visit www.ricoh.com.au for full product information.
