April 26, 2007: Ricoh will upgrade its popular GX8 digicam with the launch of the new Caplio GX100 at the upcoming PMA 2007 Imaging Technology Expo in Melbourne on May 4.
Featuring a 10-megapixel CCD image sensor and high performance wide-angle zoom lens, the GX100 is the world’s first slimline digicam to offer an extra wide-angle 24mm optical zoom lens. Composed of 11 glass elements in seven groups, the GX100 zoom lens delivers sharp, clear pictures without distortion or aberration and offers aperture settings from f/2.5 at wide-angle to f/4.4 at telephoto (where the focal length is equivalent to 72mm in 35mm format ). The 7-blade iris aperture enables ?ne tuning and blurred backgrounds. An optional wide conversion lens expands the field of view to the equivalent of 19mm.
The Caplio GX100 sports a robust die-cast metal alloy body and leather-like handgrip. It’s the first compact digital camera to support a tilted and removable LCD viewfinder, which offers full field of view coverage without the need for parallax correction. All dials and buttons have been positioned to allow easy access to manual settings such as aperture-priority AE, exposure, white balance and ISO sensitivity. Two personalised favourite settings can also be programmed for easy recall, while the icon-driven menu lets users select from the camera’s additional functions at a touch of a button.

Aspect ratios of 1:1 or 3:2 can be selected to allow images to be printed in standard sizes without cropping and the camera supports several combinations of resolution and compression. It also offers RAW and RAW+JPEG modes. Included in the $799 recommended retail price of the camera is a long lasting rechargeable battery that can take up to 380 shots from one charge. The GX100 is also compatible with standard AAA alkaline batteries and an optional AC power adaptor. The camera will be available with the electronic viewfinder for an RRP of $899. The viewfinder itself is priced at $199.
