The new Caplio GX, which is expected to sell for $699 boasts a smart, black, full metal body that is styled like a rangefinder camera. It supports full auto exposure plus aperture priority and full manual exposure control plus support for both JPEG and TIFF image capture. Other attractive features include macro shooting to 1cm and a claimed 1.2 second start up time plus 0.12 second focus and shoot shutter lag. A 1.8-inch LCD monitor with 130,000 pixels can be used as an alternative to the optical viewfinder. Histogram information can be displayed for quick analysis of exposure accuracy prior to shooting.
The Caplio GX comes with 16 MB of on-board memory plus a slot for SD/MMC cards. It is supplied with a long-life lithium-ion battery and charger worth $200, which is good for 400-500 standard shots and over 4,300 shots in minimal power mode.
