October 3, 2005: Ricoh has scheduled the Australian release of its flagship GR Digital compact digicam for 21 October.
Based on the successful GR 28mm compact film camera model, the new GR Digital has a 7.18 x 5.32mm CCD sensor with 8.13 megapixels (effective) and a fast (f2.4) 5.9mm lens with a focal length equivalent to 28mm on a 35mm camera. The lens consists of six glass elements in five groups and boasts a minimum aperture of f11. The camera has six capture mode settings: Photo (Still, Continuous, S-Continuous, M-Continuous), Program Shift/Aperture-Priority/Manual exposure, Scene (Text, Sound) and Motion. Still images can be recorded in JPEG or RAW+JPEG format and the GR Digital is one of the first compact digicams to record RAW files in the universal Adobe DNG format. Shutter speeds range from 180 to 1/2000 second.
The GN Digital has a high-resolution 2.5-inch low temperature polysilicon TFT LCD monitor and 26 MB of internal memory plus a card slot for SD/MMC media. A hot-shoe is provided for accessory flash units and the camera can also be fitted with an external viewfinder, 21mm conversion lens, cable release, lens hood and filters. The camera measures 107.0 x 25.0 x 58.0 mm and weighs 200g when loaded with its DB-60 rechargeable battery. It is expected to sell for $999. For stockist information, phone 1300 363 741.
