May 5, 2008: Local distributor, Tasco Sales Australia, will release the Ricoh G600 shock-resistant, waterproof camera next month.
A successor to the popular G500, the G600 has an 8.8 x 6.6 mm CCD sensor with 10-megapixel resolution plus a 5x optical zoom lens the covers focal lengths equivalent to 28-140mm in 35mm format. The G600’s compact body weighs only 260 grams (with memory card and battery). It can withstand drops of up to 1.5 metres and is waterproof to one metre depth. Dust resistance meets JIS protection grade 6 standard because of the G600’s completely airtight construction.
Large buttons and a contoured handgrip ensure easy operation and a 2.7-inch high-definition and high-luminance LCD makes it easy to compose shots. A built-in light sensor automatically adjusts display brightness to match ambient lighting. The built-in flash is more powerful, with an effective range of up to 10 metres for wide-angle and 6.5 metres for tele shots. Sensitivity has been extended to ISO 3200 and a hot shoe allows external flash units to be used.
The G600 is supplied with a high-capacity rechargeable lithium-ion battery but it will also accept AAA-size batteries if required. An optional AC adaptor is also available. RRP for the G600 is $899. For more information, visit www.tasco.com.au.
